we are interested in being able to predict the effects of mutations on local protein structure. the hypothesis is that we should be able to explain, at a structural level, why mutations affect protein function.
i am involved in developing a structural analysis pipeline, which will identify the structurally disruptive effects of mutations in proteins. from this analysis, i will develop tools which aim to predict whether a mutation will cause disease.
i have recently developed a method for identifying functionally equivalent proteins, called orthofind, and a method for identifying high conservation in a multiple sequence alignment, called ImPACT (improved protein analysis conservation threshold). please note that these servers are under construction.
at the moment, i am working on incorporating several new structural analyses into our structural analysis pipeline.
